Founded in 1993, the mission of the Museum of the Occupation of Latvia is to "remember, to commemorate, and to remind" the history of the Soviet and Nazi occupations. Its work played a significant role in democratization processes and Latvia's candidacy for the European Union and NATO membership. Thirty years later, with the escalation of the war in Ukraine, its work has a renewed urgency and a new chapter.

Historian Māra Lazda (Bronx Community College) will speak on the evolution of the museum's work. Museum exhibit development consultant Pēteris Dajevskis (Interpretive Solutions) will discuss the growing relevancy of the museum and significance of the visitor's experience in fostering understanding.
